COVID-OzGenetics Research Project

If you have tested positive for COVID-19, you can help unravel the mystery of why people respond so differently to the virus.

Take Part

What is the purpose of the research?

  • To determine if there is a genetic and/or environmental link as to why some people experience severe symptoms and others have mild symptoms of Covid-19 infection.
  • This information may lead to new testing methods, and/or treatments that could benefit future generations.

What does participation in this research involve?

  • Providing informed consent.
  • Completing a short 10-minute online questionnaire at 4 time-points on your symptoms and severity of your Covid-19 infection as well as your recovery.

  • Provide a biological (blood) sample for genetic analysis and biomarkers.

Take Part

Who can participate?

  • Any person living in Australia who has had a positive diagnostic Covid- 19 test and is 18 years of age and over.

Will I get paid?

  • On completion of the initial questionnaire and once we have received your biological sample you will receive a $80 gift card for reimbursement of your time, travel, parking and other expenses that you may have incurred as a result of participating.
  • On receipt of the follow up questionnaires and your biological samples you will receive a $40 gift card for reimbursement of costs associated with participating in the follow up time points.

Do I have to attend the University of Queensland?

  • No. You will not have to attend the University of Queensland to participate in this study.
  • Questionnaires can be completed online, or we can send you a paper copy.
  • You can provide a blood sample by attending your nearest pathology collection centre.

Can I access my results or genetic data?

  • No. This research is not designed to provide any clinical results to participants. It is not standard research practice to return genetic findings to participants.

Will I be given the results of the research project?
