The South Asian Genes and Health in Australia Study (SAGHA)

Current medical guidelines for cardiovascular risk are based on research from mostly European people and are not always suitable for South Asians and can lead to differences in the level of healthcare received.
The South Asian Genes and Health in Australia (SAGHA) Study aims to address the lack of representation of South Asians in cardiovascular genetics research,
with the long-term goal of improving medical guidelines for preventing and treating cardiovascular disease for this population.

Australian Launch of the MND MAGNET Trial

MAGNET (Multi-arm, Adaptive, Group-sequential trial NETwork) is an international platform trial innovated to streamline the evaluation of potential motor neuron disease (MND) treatments.
The idea of a platform trial is that multiple treatments can be tested simultaneously, and more people are randomized into treatment arms rather than placebo.
MAGNET’s first sub-study evaluates the efficacy of lithium carbonate in MND patients who have a specific mutation in the UNC13A gene.
