Upcoming Lab Closures & Shipping Guidelines

Upcoming HSU Laboratory Closures:

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY CLOSURE

Closure Dates: Thursday, 13th of November, 2025

Please consider these dates when planning to send samples to our laboratory.

For samples collected on Wednesday, 12th of November:

  • QLD Sites:If you intend on collecting on Wednesday, 12th November, please could you notify the laboratory at your earliest convenience to ensure we can cater for the receipt of these.
  • Please do not schedule collections for Thursday, 13th of November, unless they will be delivered to UQ on Friday, 14th November.
  • All Other Sites: If you are collecting samples on Wednesday, 12th November, please send your samples the following day on Thursday, 13th November using an overnight courier service.

ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWN LAB CLOSURE

Closure Dates: Monday, 24th of November to Friday, 28th of November, 2025

Our lab staff will be on site during this closure period; however, we will not have power for this entire week on our lab floor. Could we kindly request any collections to be postponed to the following week. If this is not possible, could you notify the laboratory at your earliest convenience to ensure we can cater for the receipt of these.

For samples collected on Thursday, 20th of November:

  • QLD Sites:For any samples collected on Friday, 21st of November, please send using the standard same day service normally used by your site for Friday collections.
  • Please ensure any samples collected on Friday, 21st of November are delivered to the IMB Stores by 2:30pm (unless otherwise arranged with the HSU lab team).
  • All Other Sites: Please DO NOT send blood samples to the HSU laboratory on Friday, 21st of November.
  • If your site has the capability to process samples, if any blood samples are collected on this day please process at your site. Otherwise, please do not collect any blood samples on Friday, 21st of November.

CHRISTMAS/NY BREAK CLOSURE

Closure Dates: Wednesday 24th of December 2025 to Friday, 2nd of January 2026

We would like to advise that the HSU Sample Processing Lab will be closed over this period. Our lab will be staffed from this date although not at full capacity.

  • QLD Sites: Last date for sample collections to be sent to the lab is Friday, 19th of December. For any samples collected on Friday, 19th of December, please send using the standard same day service normally used by your site for Friday collections.
  • All Other Sites: In terms of sample collection at your site we would recommend booking your last participants for Wednesday, 10th of December. This will give the samples ample time to make it back to our lab and processed in time for the Christmas break.
  • For lab mailers / collection kits which are being sent out to participants to be directly sent back to our lab, the last date for these to be sent out from sites is Friday, 5th of December. Please include a notice with lab mailer packs informing participants of the closure dates. Please get in touch if you require a template.
  • For collections outside of the above dates, please confirm first with HSU lab staff before booking an appointment to ensure we will have staff available to receive and process the samples.
